Gremlins 2: The New Batch , 1990

Welcome back to another edition of Saturday Night Movie Sleepovers’ 2019 Summer of Sequels! This week J. Blake and Dion Baia are heading all the way back to 1990 to revisit the insanity and wackiness that is Joe Dante‘s Gremlins 2: The New Batch!

Dion and Blake reflect on how insane and off the wall this sequel was to the 1984 classic, as they analyze the backstory and novelization. They reflect on the troupe of actors within this zanny follow-up, and their undying love for thespians like John Glover. They also revisit the recent auction of Rick Baker‘s SFX memorabilia, as Blake reminisce’s about what he was bidding on, and what special piece of movie memorabilia from Gremlins 2 Blake actually won and is now in his livingroom. So, remember not to feed your friendly neighborhood podcasters after midnight, in this all new hilarious installment of Saturday Night Movie Sleepovers!! #wacktown

Thanks for making my day better guys, cause those Mondays occasionally need a little help. Love this zany movie and was happy to see you two covering it. Looking forward to you guys covering police academy 2 at some point this summer. Not really, but I’d listen regardless

I saved the episode for today because I knew work was gonna be incredibly shitty. I’m glad I did. You guys guessed I was gonna be one of the people who would come here to mention my favorite John Glover performance? You damn right! I loved him as The Riddler on Batman the Animated Series and I loved him as Lionel Luthor, but you know what’s a pretty good albeit short John Glover role? There’s an episode of the 80’s Twilight Zone called “A Small Talent for War” that I highly recommend. You can see it on Youtube. I don’t have access to my Twitter, so this is the best you’re gonna get lol

As for Gremlins 2, I remember my mom’s family taking me and my sisters to see it when it came out. We loved it. The funny thing is, as I got older I found myself gravitating towards the first movie more while one of my sisters planted her flag as this being HER Gremlins movie. She won’t even watch the first one. It makes sense, though. My sister is a HUGE Looney Tunes fan, so this catered to her sensibilities.

The Hulk Hogan scene is burned into my memory because before my mom’s family took me and my sisters, we were at their house and No Hold’s Barred was on, so that was a pretty Hogan-filled day lol.

Thanks Jose! Oddly enough, Dion and I were just chatting about the 80s Twilight Zone the other day. We will have to check out that episode.

Blake, I LOVE the 80’s Twilight Zone. There’s a lot of hidden gems in there like “Profile in Silver” and “Paladin of the Lost Hour”. With “A Small Talent for War”, it can’t be more than eight minutes long. It’s one of those stories that hits you and leaves before it outstays its welcome. I think you’ll dig it!
